IRS announces mileage rates for 2016

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2016, the standard mileage rates for the use of a vehicle will be:

-54 cents per mile for business miles driven, down from 57.5 cents in 2015
-19 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes, down from 23 cents in 2015
-14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations, steady from 2015

New Employee Healthcare Notice Requirement!

Beginning October 1, 2013, employers are required to provide written notices to all employees about health coverage options, including notification about federal and state health insurance marketplaces. The Department of Labor has provided model notices for employers who do not offer insurance, as well as for employers who offer coverage to some or all employees. Please complete Part B of the appropriate notice and distribute both pages to your employees and retain documentation of delivery to them. Starting January 1, 2014, employers will have 14 days from the employee’s start date to provide a notice to them. For more information, please visit the Department of Labor’s website.

Annual Louisiana Sales Tax Holiday for Hunting Supplies Sept. 6-8

The Louisiana Department of Revenue has issued Revenue Information Bulletin (RIB) 13-019, which discusses the 2013 Louisiana Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday. This sales tax holiday provides a state and local sales and use tax exemption on any consumer purchase of firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies. This exemption does not apply to business or commercial purchases. The 2013 holiday will be begin on Friday, September 6, at 12:01 a.m. and will end at midnight on Sunday, September 8, 2013.
